Organic milk production in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

This research constitutes the first overview of organic milk production chain in state Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main objective is to identify profile producers, as well their motivations and difficulties remaining sector, plus characterize units. Data were obtained through interviews with producers by a semi-structured questionnaire, from April December 2019. analysis was performed descriptive exploratory manner, quantitative qualitative approach. average size properties about 149.5 hectares. daily 194.3 L/day. As for properties, 86% used mechanized milking adopted forage concentrate supplementation lactating cows. It found that obtaining inputs animal feed most challenging difficulty producers. Nevertheless, there low utilization some areas on which could be these (voluminous concentrated), contribute self-sufficiency.
